Environmental Policy

At Ethical Solar we believe that businesses have responsibility to work hard at reducing our impact on both the local and global environment, we cherish this challenge at the heart of our company and we are committed to leading the way when installing solar panels and being an example to others. In short, we aim to live up to our name.

We aim to achieve this through the following measures during out installations:

  • Run company vehicles on biodiesel made from waste vegetable oil as much as possible. Keep business travel to a minimum.
  • Research and source products based on the retailers’ environmental record and policy. We will take into consideration energy used to create the products, as well as transport miles.
  • Bring to market in the UK the most sustainable products available to the Solar PV industry (this is done through our sister company Wholesolar)
  • Don’t buy anything new (apart from the components for your solar system), instead we buy secondhand or refurbished, computers, phones tools etc.
  • Offer free advice on energy saving and conservation beyond just that of energy generation
  • Lead the field in sustainable practices and encourage those we work with to adopt similar environmental principles to our own
  • Communicate by email whenever possible and use recycled paper from sustainable sources.
  • Include pertinent information on the company web site rather than through too much printed promotional materials.
  • Recycle all waste materials that can be recycled
  • Share our profits with the Transition movement to keep momentum in the things we believe in
  • Host our web site with a ‘green’ hosting company.
  • Use energy-efficient devices (e.g., energy-saving light bulbs and energy-efficient computers) for business practices.
  • Register with Mail Preference Service to receive less junk mail.
  • Provide a cycle to work scheme, we now have over 80% of commuting journeys done by cycle.
  • Abide by and promote sustainable, fair, honest and responsible business practices.
  • Review and revise our environmental policy on a quarterly basis.
  • Maintain our accreditation from the Ethical Company Organisation.
